Meant to be

Something funny just happened to me and I have to share! I was straightening the books here and facing out ones that hadn’t been, for a new look. I was on my knees facing out Frank Peretti’s ‘This Present Darkness’ and the second one and I thought these are such good books even though they are older and would make a great read for someone. A customer came in the door so I stood up and said hi to her. She came up to the counter chatting about the heat and then she said I have 2 books I’m wondering if you could get for me. I said let’s have a look as she pulled a paper from her purse. She said they are older books as she handed me the paper. I looked at it and had to smile. I looked at her and said, this is too funny! She looked at me all surprised and said why? I went around the counter and pulled both from the shelf and handed them to her. She was so excited that I had 2 copies of each cause one was a gift and one was for herself! Then I told her what I was doing and thinking right before she came in. She thought it was funny too and meant to be for her today!

Fright!

The air was cool but sweat beaded up on Ella’s forehead. The run up the multi flights of stairs was only partly to blame. Fear always caused her to sweat.  Thankfully, for now she seemed to be safe.

The old loft was drafty and smelled of old wood and mildew. Darkness crowded in all around her as she felt her way across the worn floor. She needed to move slowly as to not cause more creaking than necessary. Not and easy feat on such a decaying surface.

She was fairly certain she was not followed into the building. She also knew better than to assume anything. Assuming led to letting down her guard and she could not afford such a mistake.

When she reached a far corner she brushed aside the debris and sat with her back to the wall. She huddled with her arms hugging her knees to her chest. She’d wait here until at least daybreak. She rubbed her sleeve across her face and blinked trying to see anything in the blackness.

  Nothing.

  Silence.

  Then she heard it!
